Live broadcast from WCup and EOC

The organizer of the third world cup round in Romania, which includes the European Championships,  have announced that three of the distances (sprint, long and relay) will be broadcasting live on the central-eastern European channel SportClub. The last distance (middle-distance) will be shown in the evening at the competition day. According to the organizer this is the first time ski-orienteering will be shown live on television. Earlier examples of ski-o on TV have been evening studios after championships, mainly in Russia.

Unfortunately this is not a channel available for viewers outside of a few countries in eastern Europe, but the organizer have also promised that they can deliver the signals for free to other interested TV companies outside those countries. Hopefully this can make it easy for different sport programs to show clips from the championship in their production.

We have contacted one of the two event directors, Klaus Csucs, to get some more details on the productions.

What can you tell us about the SportKlub channel which will broadcast this event?
- SportKlub is an South-eastern European sport channel. It is broadcasting in Romania, Hungary, Serbia, Poland, Slovenia and Croatia. They are broadcasting football, motor sports, basketball, handball, ice hockey and now also ski-o.

Will it be possible for peoples from other countries to view the programs on web?
- Yes, it will be possible for people from other countries to view the programs through our website. We will make a live stream.

Will the production be only camera based or will you also provide gps-tracking in the production and on the web?
- Unfortunately it will only be camera based. For us, it would have been very hard to make GPS-tracking, because some parts of the areas have no GSM signals. We have asked GPS-sauranta which has done the tracking on Jukola relay last years.

Have there been any interest from others who want to get those signal to their countries?
- Unfortunately nobody have asked to get the signal. It's free but nobody wants it.

After this interview, we contacted secretary-general of the Norwegian Orienteering Federation (NOF), Bjørnar Valstad, asking if the federation would try to contact any channels in Norway to tip them about this opportunity to get some live pictures on the sports news?

- We wasn't aware of this until now, but will investigate this.

One day later I got this in a mail from NOFs event adviser, Jørn Sundby:
- I'm aware of this opportunity and we will try to contact NRK (norwegian main channel) to get in some news pictures. Unfortunately it do collide with the opening of the Olympic games. I'm also a bit unsure about the quality.
