Ski-orienteering in Russia

I have translated an interview from a Russian website about the first races in the Russian ski-o cup. Enjoy!

Undertegnede (Øyvind Watterdal)  var en tur til Russland for å gå ski-o like før jul. Her forteller jeg om turen, på engelsk.

As a preparation to the first World Cup round in St. Petersburg I went to Gornozavodsk in Ural to get some good training and technical orienteering. As a Norwegian I tend to like competitions with more pure skating. It is my third time competing in Russia so my impression is that there are few wide trails, but more narrow tracks than anywhere else, probably just like how it is going to be in the first world cup round. As always the organizers act really professional. The maps and the courses were just as I expected, really interesting and challenging. In Scandinavia we don’t have anything that can match this. It is not only tight, but I feel all the tracks are made to fit the courses and make it hard. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and with temperatures down to -35C it was hard to compete. I feel sorry for the organizer that put in so much effort and had to delay and cancel two of the races. Anyway I had an awesome trip and thanks to everybody who made it possible.
